I went to the first "Vegfest" put on at the Artisan in January which featured Your Produce Man, Michael Marks. So many people came that all the good food ran out fast, including raw and living vegan foods put up by "Cultured Kitchen" such as kombucha, as well as muffins and cookies on sale from Sugar Plum Vegan. The only mediocre food was fried rolls and noodles from "Loving Hut", which one couldn't really complain about because they gave it away for free anyway. If you arrived promptly at noon for lunch as I did you were still in good luck, but apparently shortly afterward there wasn't much pickings. I hope this time they learn to handle the crowding situation better than leave people standing in long lines just to get to all the booths just to try samples of foods. Collapse

August is the perfect month to see Anthony and Alicia, always great. My recommendation: TRY to get to this performance. Some of us will still be on vacation at the Lake (Vacation vs. this Talent is one difficult choice). For the rest of you, no excuses. Too soon Summer becomes Fall... Congratulations to both of these Entertainers on their success. Collapse

The Fair Board is persistent on having the "Birthing" exhibits at this year's fair, despite the errant pregnant cow & her unborn calf being gunned down last year after escaping from the exhibit. The cow was referred to as a "nut job" & ordered security to shoot her and they did, 7 times! There must have been a dozen farmers, cowboys, stockhandlers nearby, and THIS was the best they could do? Unacceptable! People need to be able to make an informed decision on whether they feel they should support the CA State Fair or not. As for me.... NOT! Collapse

The last state fair a cow whom escaped the "birthing exhibit" got shot to death, which has led to public demand to stop such animal exhibits. The oher animals at the state fair are placed under just as stressful and arid situations while staying at the outdated, unsubstantial and non-air conditioned buildings from when Governor Ronald Reagan decided to spend as cheaply as possible for Cal Expo's buildings. I debated going to see my local music heroes from the '80's, fearing they would all be pathetic old men, grasping to regain their youth like so many "reunion" shows seem to become. I was so wrong! The night was a blast. The bands sounded great, the crowd was excited and there was love in the air! There were lots of surprises throughout but none moreso than the appearance of Rhythm School's first performance in over twenty years. Their set was full of funky, punchy, tasty tunes from their 1986 LP and they were unanimously loved by the huge crowd. All the bands sounded great but the buzz throughout the night was dominated by the way Rhythm School rolled through and tore the place up - even bringing out a sax player for the encore. No one expected it. I'm so glad I went! Collapse

Local Sacramento chapter of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association has been a great benefit to our community. Thanks so much for ten years of successful leadership and focused education on civic engagement and public policy. It is to your credit for the many Asian Pacific Islanders who have been elected to legislative and constitutional offices in recent years. Keep up the great work and congratulations on both your 10th year anniversary and new headquarters. Collapse

An interesting story is well performed by the cast. Dan Masden especially shines as the older brother. The play will leave you with questions, which is a good thing.
