The Shack

The Shack

The Shack is a sandwich shop on a street corner, with a breezy outdoor patio, good music, and colorful decor. This restaurant has been serving East Sac since 1931. Originally Doc’s Place “The Root Beer King” (where you could get a hot fog for a nickel) it was home to one of the first drive-ins and then to the first drive through.

There have been many claims to fame for this tiny oasis. The Governor of California “Sunny Jim” Rolph was said to have had his first beer after prohibition in the beer garden, which is now the kitchen. When Highway 50 (Folsom Blvd) was one of the main roads leading to Sacramento, Doc could sell up to 30 barrels of beer in a day.

The Shack is still your source for great beer. They have over 100 beers in bottles and on draft.
