Black History Month is a month full of celebration and reflection on the rich African American history, art, culture, and resilience. From visual art to the art of modern dance to creating new legacies, there are plenty of reasons to educate, collaborate, reflect, and celebrate this meaningful month. African and American: A Forced Marriage

This exhibit features the work of Milton 510 Bowens. The thought-provoking work challenges us all to re-visit “race” in America by inviting all to have an open and authentic discussion.
Celebration Arts Theatre

Standing firm in their individual philosophies, this compelling play depicts a fictional meeting between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Throughout the production, the two civil rights leaders will debate their approaches to the same grave social problems,
25th Anniversary Sacramento/Black Art of Dance
Sacramento State University Theatre
February 22-26 | Tues 7pm
Searching for truth through dance, this riveting performance includes pieces choreographed by a talented and local artist. Sacramento/Black Art of Dance is a modern dance company that carries on the tradition of black concert dance in America. This performance also marks the 25th year of S/BAD performances at Sacramento State.
Black History Month Celebration: Get on the Bus
Crocker Art Museum
February 23 | Thurs 6pm
The film follows several black men cross-country bus trip to the Million Man March. The eclectic set of characters making the trek — a laid off aircraft worker, a former gang banger, a Hollywood actor, a cop who is of mixed racial background, and a white bus driver — discuss the issues surrounding the march, including manhood, religion, politics, and race.
Black Expo: 29th Annual Celebration of Black History Month
February 25 | Sat 11am-7pm
As California’s largest Black History Month Celebration, this event represents a mission to celebrate Black History Month and those great figures of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is also a time to build new legacies and with bold new adventures, showcasing black businesses in technology, business, health, wealth, education, housing, and wellness.
