Join me on an adventure for cool art and some hot for this Second Saturday! I’ll show you some of the can’t-miss spots in our October arts roadmap.
My first stop will take me to Old Sacramento to visit the Artists’ Collaborative Gallery. The exhibit of the month, Harmony with Nature, features homegrown gourd art from Cindy Lee. You’ll see everything from clocks to dolls made out of these impressive, thick-skinned fruits. Afterwards, I’ll head over to Candy Heaven to load up on some sweets for the rest of my day. If I have a little extra time, I’ll head over to Evangeline’s to start planning my Halloween costume!
Spirit of the City:
The ARTHOUSE on R’s The City: Through Brush and Lens will be the focal point of my next stop. Showcasing Sacramento life, this exhibit shows the 916 through paintings by Varya McMillan and photographs by Keith Berger. Afterwards, I’ll continue living the city life with a stroll over to Shoki Ramen House for a bowl of curry ramen.
One of the most mysterious stops of my day is at the Union Hall Gallery to check out D. González’s Vientos del Sur exhibit. This Dali-esque showcase illustrates windy, desert landscapes akin to the current hybridity of US and Latino culture. Afterwards, I’ll pop on over to Temple for a Bliss tea to ponder the wild scenery I just took in.
Gnomes, Goblins, and Ghouls:
My last stop for the day will take me to the Fe Gallery for their Fables, Fairy Tales, Folktales, Legends, and Myths exhibit. This exhibit features over 50 works from fables and myths from almost 40 artists. I’m excited to see what crazy creatures and fantastic fairies were produced. (Make sure to get here by 7pm so you don’t miss the live blacksmith demo by Stephen Lyman.) I’ll close out my day-long odyssey by heading over to Sactown Union Brewery for a couple brews.
