Knitting is Neat
My first stop of the day will be to the Crocker Art Museum for the World Wide Knit in Public Day. I do not know how to knit, but thankfully you don’t have to have previous experience to join in on the free fun. World Wide Knit in Public Day is an international event that encourages experienced and novice knitters alike to come out and knit together in public places.
Before I make my way to the next stop on my list, I’m going to indulge with a delicious brunch (Huevos Benedictinos) and a margarita from Centro. Next up will be the Tim Collom Gallery to check out The Art of Patricia Tool McHugh and Leslie Hackard, a double-dose of colorful paintings by two Sacramento artists.
Tool McHugh’s areas of expertise include drawing, color and design, printmaking, and the arts of East Asia. She has exhibited internationally and her works are in private collections throughout the country. She is known for her lush landscapes and most recently, her sumptuous still life work in watercolor.
Leslie Hackard is a Sacramento native, a local artist and an art educator. Her art reflects a joyous, nostalgic spirit that resonates through her use of vibrant colors and everyday items.
Pre-Father’s Day Fun
My next stop will be to The Atrium for UPCyclePOP Fathers Summer Upcycle Market! A playful indoor pop-up market for artistically repurposed art, furniture, fashion, home design, inventions and Fathers Day gifts. Watch artists repurpose discarded items into works of art. Play with the interactive art installations, sip wine, enjoy live music and shop sustainably for a Father’s Day gift in a chill indoor market.
Fun fact: UPcyclePOP is America’s first upcycle market, remade all here in Sacramento.
After my first upcycle market experience, I will head over to Fe Gallery for their Metamorphosis 2018 Opening Artist Reception. This show creates an opportunity for Sacramento area high school seniors to show their work in a professional gallery setting and experience a juried art competition with the chance of winning a scholarship.
Movie Night at the Fort
My final stop of the day will be to the historic Sutter’s Fort. No, not for a history lesson/experience, but to watch one of my favorite movies, Wonder Woman! Grab your loved ones, blankets, and lawn chairs and enjoy a free outdoor screening of this blockbuster movie.
