Program includes Falla’s "Spanish Dance No. 1" from La vida breve, Beethoven’s "Triple Concert;" and Stravinsky’s "Petrushka." Guest artists: violinist Nigel Armstrong, cellist James Jaffe, and pianist Elizabeth Dorman.
Violinist Nigel Armstrong has performed with the Dusseldorf Symphony, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Pacific Symphony and Boston Pops. He received 2nd Prize, the Ole Bull Prize and the Nordheim Award at the 2010 Menuhin Competition Senior Division in Oslo and 4th prize plus Commissioned Work Prize at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition. He performs chamber music across the U.S. and abroad.
Cellist James Jaffe has been a soloist with CityMusic Cleveland, the National Repertory Orchestra, Stockton Symphony and Diablo Symphony, and spent summers performing at Aspen, the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy and Astona in Switzerland. As a chamber musician, he played in Beijing and the Trinity Alps Festival and co-founded the Thalia Quartet in Cleveland, which was featured at the Robert Mann seminar in New York.
Pianist Elizabeth Dorman has performed with orchestras in Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall, Lesher Center for the Arts, Herbst Theater, Davies Symphony Hall and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She won the 2017 Father Merlet Award from Pro Musicis, Marsha Pannone Award for Artistic Excellence and California Young Artists Beethoven Competition. She has appeared at summer festivals including Toronto, Aspen, Tanglewood, Sarasota and Banff.
