Cherie Hacker is best known for her abstract paintings full of lively organic and geometric shapes composed in a symphony of colorful textured layers made with oils, ink, latex and papers. Her expressive practice of blended, bled, scumbled and drawn into mark making, reflects the shapes, lines and movement seen in nature and architecture. Hacker’s work brings focus to the importance of the picture plane as part of the ongoing exploration in paint to tap into the unconscious mind. She invites the viewer to create their own interpretation.  Abstract Expressionism and Synthetic Cubism inform her work, as well as mid-century design from childhood memories. In addition, Hacker paints plein air, photographs landscape, and has an ongoing environmental art project which inspire and inform her abstracts.
