Dorothy Rice is an author and longtime Sacramento resident. Following a 30-year career in environmental protection, she earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside at 60. She now writes about art, family and other things. and may one day muster the courage to write about her years as a civil servant, or not.

Her work has appeared in the Rumpus, Still Point Arts Quarterly, Brain, Child Magazine, the Louisville Review and a few others. Her first book, the Reluctant Artist: Joe Rice 1918 -2011, an art book/memoir about her father, a little known abstract artist, was published in November 2015 by Shanti Arts. She curates a website dedicated to her father’s art here.
