Audition: RENT at Falcon's Eye Theatre

Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize winning musical Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create under the shadow of AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

People auditioning are expected to attend both days of open auditions:
Open Vocal and Dance Auditions: Tues Jan 25th, 2022 7pm-10pm
Open Monologue Auditions: Wed Jan 26th, 2022 7pm-10pm

Monologue Audition:
Auditioners must prepare a monologue that is no more than 60 seconds long from a play. No teleplays, screenplays or passages from novels or song lyrics will be accepted. No original writing. The monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be of any genre. Monologue must be memorized.

Vocal Audition:
Prepare 16 bars of your choice that highlights your vocal range. Choose a song in the style of Rent. You may select a song from the show. Bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

Dance Auditions:
You will participate in a dance audition. No preparation is necessary. Wear loose fitting attire that allows for easy movement. Jazz shoes or tennis shoes are recommended. No bare feet or socks are allowed.

Headshot and Resume:
These are requested, though not required. Bring 8x10 headshot and a resume outlining training and performing experience for acting, dancing and singing.

Callbacks:
Callbacks are Thurs Jan 27th from 7pm-10pm. Callbacks are by invitation only. Those who are called back will be given readings from the text. Therefore it is advised to be familiar with the musical Rent.
