Art captures our intimate thoughts, experiences, memories, and dreams, and the Pence Gallery is curating an exhibit on the harrowing year behind us, 2020. We are inviting California artists to submit art under this theme to become a part of a new onsite exhibit at the Pence, titled 2020, from January 14-March 1, 2022. There is no fee to enter. Artwork may address, but is not limited to, the following: Black Lives Matter, the wildfires, the election, sheltering in place, and COVID-19.

COMMUNITY WALL ARTIST (1 piece):

Artists may bring in one 2D artwork (maximum 18” in any direction, does not have to be framed) that responds to, reflects on, or critiques any event that you experienced during 2020. Anyone who lives in California, ages 3 and up, can submit one artwork as part of a giant community art wall in our upcoming 2020 exhibit. (Applications are not required, but we do reserve the right to not display pieces that do not fit the theme.) Original art only (no copies), please. You can have a piece in this section and still apply to be an exhibiting artist with multiple pieces.

EXHIBITING ARTIST (multiple pieces):

This part of the 2020 exhibit is for those who have exhibited before and have more artwork on the theme. Art can be 2D or 3D, and there are no size restrictions. This call is limited to California artists ages 18 and up, and BIPOC artists are encouraged to submit their work. Submit digital images (150 dpi or higher) of four artworks (no more, no less) and a short written statement about their theme, via email to penceartdirector@sbcglobal.net by 5 PM of December 1, 2021.

IMPORTANT DATES:

December 1: Submissions are due via email for Exhibiting Artists by 5 PM to penceartdirector@sbcglobal.net

December 8: Notification to Exhibiting Artists of acceptance

January 7-8: Deadline for dropping off all work in-person (no shipping) for Community Wall Artists and Exhibiting Artists, 11:30 AM-4:30 PM

January 14-March 1, 2022: Exhibit dates
