Firefighters, family members and the public will gather for the annual California Firefighters Memorial ceremony to pay tribute to those firefighters who have lost their lives from traumatic line of duty or job-related deaths. 37 names will be added to more than 1,300 fallen firefighters currently inscribed on the Memorial Wall located outside the California State Capitol Building.
Included in these thirty-seven names will be Captain David Rosa who was shot and killed in June in Long Beach while responding to a call. His surviving partner, Ernesto Torres, who was also shot, will present Rosa’s flag to his widow. The California Firefighters Memorial and the ceremonies are funded through the non-profit California Fire Foundation.
The ceremony will begin with a uniformed procession, led by the traditional pipes and drums, from the South Steps of the Capitol, along N St. in downtown Sacramento and into the Memorial site. Family members of the fallen will be presented with an American flag, in honor of their service. Firefighters and dignitaries will be among those speaking to the sacrifice of California’s first responders.
