Black Pioneers Exhibit Celebration

Join the California Museum in celebrating its newest exhibit, “Black Pioneers: Legacy in the American West”. On view from June 10 – October 1, 2023, “Black Pioneers” is a traveling exhibit of pictorial quilts by the Women of Color Quilters Network and organized by The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art and Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi.

Festivities include:

Self-guided exhibit tours
Hands-on community quilting activity with the Sisters Quilting Collective
Keynote by historian and quilter Lillian LeBlanc
Presentations by featured exhibit artists Ora Clay, Deb Harris, and Jeanette Floyd
Quilt appraisal by renowned expert Julie Silber
Genealogy research information from the Greater Sacramento African American Genealogy
Pop-up shops from regional Black artisans and small businesses
Community information tables
