This month, ACAI Gallery’s show “Get Real” was designed by the artists themselves, to share with you their inspiration for painting. ACAI Gallery is an intimate gallery in Fair Oaks transforming each month with works by Local Artists of multimedia. Their purpose is to bring to the community at large a venue that supports local artists and inspires the community.
All three 2-d artists Jackie Carroll, Paula Cameto and Deborah Plath get inspiration from the natural world for realistic renderings. For them, the slang, “Get Real”, comes from our generation to mean stay grounded or stay in the real world. To that end, they spend time studying there subjects through photos and sketches often done outside. They are interested in developing pleasing compositions, observing how light affects color and trying to master the medium, which is predominantly oil. Ceramics Terrence Watson was the perfect three 3-d artist to join this show because of his life in and love of nature. His wheel-thrown, salt fired, wood-fired, raku fired and traditional firing ceramics works is a direct link between his imagination Nature and techniques learned through constant throwing and teachers Linda Gelfman and Rodney Mott. Terrence is now teaching throwing classes Saturday mornings and once a month Raku firing at ACAI (Allied Ceramic Arts Institute).
