Global Rhythms School Matinee

Students will get to see a true Hollywood star at this tour and performance featuring Massamba DiopMassamba Diop, the drum soloist heard throughout the Black Panther movie. Diop, through his extraordinary playing of the Senegalese drum (tama), uses music to encourage cross-cultural understanding. Along with an educational performance by Diop, students will get a related tour of the Crocker’s collection.

  • The music of Black Panther opened new doors, introducing authentic African sounds into an action-packed Marvel-movie score. Senegalese percussionist Massamba Diop, who recently visited a Connecticut middle school, was featured throughout the movie’s soundtrack playing his instrument: the talking drum.
