Mexican American Baseball Photo Exhibit

Mark Ocegueda will be displaying visuals from Mexican American baseball history in Sacramento in the upcoming art exhibition, Campo de Sueños.

Campo de Sueños is a Gallery exhibit that depicts the Mexican American baseball community within Sacramento, and generates a connection between the history of the Mexican athletes of baseball and the rest of the Sacramento Mexican American community. The Mexican American region of Sacramento was involved in a lot of farming, canneries, packing houses and railroading. Thus, baseball was the best way the Mexican American community within Sacramento could engage in leisure and fun activities, and take a break from their strenuous labor-full experiences. As well, baseball provided a way for the Sacramento Mexican American community to gather ethnic pride and develop a sense of identity for its community members.

Note: A special guest panel discussion will be hosted in the University Union’s Forest Suite on Thursday, September 5 from 5pm- 6:30 pm. An opening reception will follow from 6:30 pm-8 pm in the Gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the University Union. Attendants are welcome to meet the artist and enjoy appetizers provided at the event. The exhibit, panel discussion and reception, is open to the general public.
