Photo-Based Art (Sac Open Studios)

Stop by and say hello during artist, Kate Farrall’s free Open Art Studio. Her newest body of camera-less Polaroid images will be on display and the artist will be on-hand to answer questions about her process, inspiration, and more.

This open studio is a part of Sac Open Studios, a region-wide event where over 250 artists open their studios to the public that’s organized by Verge Center for the Arts. Her studio will be open the second weekend of the event.

With instant film like Polaroids, there are layers that Farrall moves by hand to interact with each other. Heat, light, cold, time, and the surrounding environment all have an impact on the resulting image created. They are each one-of-a-kind, unique, camera-less creations. Some are inspired by the garden, some are inspired by pure movement, and some are inspired by achieving small goals that she set for the piece while following a set of rules. Each piece was created with a specific intention in mind.

Kate Farrall is a fine artist who creates experimental photography that includes exposing photos through the postal system and growing bioluminescent organisms such as fungus and algae to make images. She’s exhibited with well known photographers including Marco Breuer, Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey, Binh Danh, and Ann Hamilton.
