The Central Valley Rails to Trails Foundation (CVRTF) was founded in 2000 by residents of Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties. This all-volunteer non-profit (ID#94-3375724) supports the conversion of unused Central Valley rail corridors into community trails for non-motorized recreation and alternative commuting.
Their main focus is a 27 mile segment of the Central CA Traction Company rail corridor that runs between the City of Sacramento (Power Inn area) through the communities of Vineyard, Sheldon (East Elk Grove), Wilton, Herald and Acampo, with the southern point of the proposed trail being at the Woodbridge Winery. This corridor is currently considered a back-up alternative for the Sacramento to Merced segment of the High Speed Rail project. Until this selection is finalized, CVRTF continues to keep adjacent property owners, and the greater Central Valley community, informed of actual and proposed uses of the Corridor, while also hosting their annual TrailFest event.
