Northern California’s premier venue for Argentine tango, Tango by the River, is located in the picturesque and historic district of Old Sacramento in California’s state Capitol.

Tango by the River’s visionary and founder, Donna Williams, decided seven years ago to put Sacramento on the tango map. She chose a location with superb walk-by traffic (Old Sacramento gets upwards of five million visitors a year), a rich cultural heritage (19th century buildings that help evoke the feel of Old Buenos Aires where tango originated), and plenty of parking (with two huge parking garages and metered parking on the streets).

The studio itself has been called the “nation’s most elegant tango salon.” With over 1500 square feet of beautiful hardwood floor, spacious fourteen foot ceilings, and five 12-foot windows overlooking Old Sacramento, it is also probably the most romantic. Draped with gold satin taffeta draperies and decorated with antiques and reproductions, there is no better place to dance the tango.
