California-based artist Demetris “BAMR” Washington was born in Fort Ord, CA not too long before the base was closed down. He has ever since lived in several of California’s major cities such as Oakland, Hayward, Stockton, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. As a result, he has been able to develop a diverse range of techniques while still keeping his style consistent. This style, now known as “BAMR” Style, consists of a range of original, imaginative characters, texture, and concepts that are usually based on also life’s lessons and moral teachings.

Ever since the start of his career in 2008, when he was commissioned to do his first mural for his High School Alumni (Stagg High of Stockton, CA), he has completed over 15 murals throughout California for clients such as The Sacramento Kings and The California Endowment as well as several non-profit organizations local to Sacramento. While his current focus is to do more murals and public works, Demetris still finds the time to create new canvas paintings weekly and has plans of releasing a series of children’s books, a clothing line, and eventually, his own non-profit arts organization.

BAMR, which stands for "Becoming A Man Righteously," is the name that he has been working under for the last five years both as an artist and peer mentor. For the most part, his work is spiritually based with deep messages, themes, or concepts to go along with the vibrant and heavy use of contrasting colors. Although he uses color in his works, he hopes his messages are clear enough to be seen and felt by the color-blind.
