Zine Fun at Verge

I’ll kick off my day at Verge Center for the Arts for their Sacramento Zine Fest, a showcase of DIY and alternative press zines as well as other artwork for display and purchase from the artists themselves!

What is a zine, you ask? Zines come in all shapes and sizes but primarily fit the bill of a smaller in size, self-published magazine. The content of zines may range from poetry and creative writing to music and fashion review, to feminism and people of color empowerment, to any art book made solo or collaboratively.

20/20

After Verge, I will head over to the Kennedy Gallery in Midtown to check out their 20/20 exhibit. Twenty of the best artists chosen from a very competitive jury process. Each artist will display 20 eight by eight-inch works in their own theme.

Next up, I will refuel with some delicious food, a house margarita, and sunshine on the patio at Zocalo.

THIS is SUMMER

THIS Midtown has become a hugely popular 2nd Saturday/summertime tradition and it’s officially back and bigger than ever! Take in the huge block party at the MAARS building and enjoy a beer garden, beautiful art, some cool vendors, and music from Poolside, DJ Epik, Billy Lane, Rich Soto and Haitham.

Wine a Little About Fashion

My next stop will be just a few blocks over for The Handle District’s fourth annual wine and fashion event, Dress Up Wine Down on Capitol Avenue.

Local fashion stylist and boutique owner Felicia Strati will serve as the creative director for the runway fashion show to benefit WEAVE. The Lodi Winegrape Commission will host wine tasting with more than a dozen wineries from one of the world’s fastest-growing wine regions.

Your Airness

My final stop of the evening will be to The Sofia, the new state-of-the-art theatre and home to B Street Theatre, for their special $9 @ 9pm performance of Airnesssponsored by Sacramento365. This joyful comedy, which premiered at the prestigious Humana Festival, professional Air Guitar competitions provides the backdrop for a marvelous cast of characters. When Nina, a real guitar player, wanders into a bar to compete, she soon discovers that she has a lot to learn.
