If you have been in the Sacramento art community for the past few years, you may have heard the rumblings of a show called Beer & Ballet. Currently in its 30th year of production, Beer & Ballet has become a tradition for many households, often signifying the kickoff of the Sacramento Ballet season. This show holds a special place in Sacramento and leads to some amazing memories and experiences. I personally attended a few years ago and was in absolute awe by the end of the show. So, I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to see this year’s choreography and performances.

Beer & Ballet is a compilation of different numbers all composed by dancers within the Sacramento Ballet company. Each ticket includes one complimentary beer from Bike Dog so you can enjoy a drink with the performance.

The production has a wide diversity of dancers — some developing choreography for the first time and some who are seasoned dancers with the Sacramento Ballet – each drawing from personal experiences to create wildly imaginative vignettes.

We see the company inspired by their own lives, their past, and their childhoods to create exceptional performances. Some are lighthearted and fun that will have you smiling ear to ear. One of these lighter performances was extremely unique having the performers dance in sneakers. Some take a more serious approach and deal with heavy topics that touch your heart.

Beer & Ballet takes a new approach to ballet. It is easy for ballet lovers and those new to ballet to find enjoyment and love in the art itself. Not only is it a great way for the artists to tap into their creativity, but it is a great way for the audience to find a new community of passionate people. Beer & Ballet is performing through October 8 at the CLARA building. Learn more here.
