I believe there are two types of people in this world: Jane Austen people and non-Jane Austen people. If you are a Jane Austen person, chances are you love witty jokes and are a hopeless romantic. I myself have even wished to have Matthew Macfadyen embrace me in a meadow while dramatic music plays in the background (sorry miniseries fans, I’m a 2005 film girl). Pride and Prejudice has always been a big part of my life, so when I discovered Capital Stage puts on a production that continues the Bennet-Darcy story during Christmas, I could hardly wait for December to arrive.

Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley shifts the focus of the play to Georgiana Darcy, an accomplished pianist who is a little wary of romance, and Kitty Bennet, a bright-eyed optimist and the youngest of the Bennet sisters. The girls embark on a holiday adventure spanning multiple years that includes admirers, love, secrets, and meddling family members. This show is the third and final play in the Christmas at Pemberley trilogy, but no need to fret! If you know the characters from Pride and Prejudice, you can follow along with the show without having to see the two prior plays.

This play is a Jane Austen fan’s dream come true. I was smiling from ear to ear throughout about 90 percent of the show watching Georgiana and Henry interact. From their first awkward interaction to reuniting years later, seeing the sort of admiration and care that Georgiana has for Henry made my heart balloon up with joy. Even after not seeing each other for years, the present he provides to her makes it clear that Henry’s heart and mind has never strayed from Georgiana. This overwhelming feeling of love and fondness is what made me enjoy Pride and Prejudice in the first place and this play hit the hammer on the head with the same exact emotions.

As far as acting goes, I must give props to the entire cast of the show. They all took very well-known and well-loved characters and embodied them. Every person was spot-on for their character and even got to see some great character development. This really shines when Georgiana, who is normally tame and quiet, becomes a force to be reckoned with in the music world. For the new characters, I think both Andrew Fridae (Henry Grey) and Braeden Harris (Thomas O’Brien) did a fantastic job of fitting them into the Jane Austen world and they were great additions to the show.

Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley is a can’t miss holiday show of the season. You will be roaring with laughter and will leave the theatre eager to embrace your own holiday love. If you are looking for a show to truly bewitch you, body and soul, then be sure to check out Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley now through December 31 at Capital Stage. Learn more here.
