 CLARA MIdtown, Sacramento, CA, 95816

CLARA launched applications for the Sacramento Emerging Artists Showcase (SEAS). This project — a recipient of the City of Sacramento’s Creative Economy Grant — provides local artists with professional training on the art of booking gigs and personal promotion, and culminates with a public performance on Saturday, May 23.

SEAS was originally developed by local producer and entertainer Jay Siren, and launched Upstairs at the B in 2018; Siren brought the program to CLARA as part of the organization’s larger commitment to expanding the professional resources and development opportunities available to Sacramento artists.

Artists selected for SEAS will receive:
-A professional development workshop on essential marketing tools for the independent artist, facilitated by Sacramento’s new poet laureate, Andru Defeye. Defeye will also work with the artists to help them craft and edit professional artist bios.
-A peer-to-peer review of each artist’s act, facilitated by Inertia DeWitt, AKA American Wonder Woman.
-A professional headshot, courtesy of Katy Karns Photography.
-The opportunity to perform in front of a live audience as part of the Sacramento Emerging Artist Showcase (SEAS).
-Access to professional video and production photos captured during SEAS.
-Curated anonymous feedback submitted by SEAS audience members during the showcase.
-Artist will receive a fully-designed electronic press kit to promote their work following the culminating workshop.

To qualify as an “emerging artist,” participants are expected to have been performing in their chosen genre for less than four years. The project has space for 15 solo or group acts and is now accepting applications here. Deadline is March 27.

Major supporters of SEAS include the City of Sacramento, CapRadio, Submerge Magazine, Sol Collective, ZFG Promotions and Katy Karns Photography. Tickets to the Showcase will be available to the public in April.
