This project gives mini-grants to artists to create temporary public art promoting health (both physical and mental) and community resilience during the pandemic. Program is administered by lead artist Danielle Fodor, a community muralist based in Davis.

The project has two components, which both employ artists who have been economically impacted by the coronavirus crisis. Many professional and semi-professional artists have lost their jobs, sales, and contract labor. This project gives economic support through meaningful work and mutual aid, instead of a charity model. Volunteer artists are also welcome to participate.

1. #HealthIsInOurCommunity is a street art/public health campaign that funds skilled artists to create public art focused on public health and civic engagement.
2. #PlanforResilience is a public-awareness campaign that commissions economically-impacted local artists to create three-day murals out of sidewalk chalk and temporary, washable, tempera and clay-based paints, around the theme “Plan for Resilience”.  Six artists will be commissioned to install the murals coinciding with secular holidays such as: Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Cinco de Mayo, Father’s Day, the Fourth of July, and/or Bike Month.

Artist selection:
Artists can qualify for up to three per-diem grants (a total of $600 each) for each of the two programs. To qualify for a stipend, applicant must be a professional/semiprofessional visual artist or emerging professional visual artist.

Funded, in part, by a generous grant from the City of Davis Arts and Cultural Affairs Program.
