Blues In The Schools

Program description

Sacramento Blues Society’s Blues in the Schools (BITS) program provides special opportunities to educate and mentor students in the historical significance of the Blues and its impact on American and World culture and music. In an interactive lecture format interspersed with live performance, local Sacramento professional musicians inform students about Blues music history, song structure, how to put feelings into lyrics and song, and how instruments play together to effectively communicate the Blues. Students sing along, play egg shakers, and ask questions of the band. If the school has a music program, students may get on stage to “jam”. Our program can layer knowledge to emphasize middle school educational goals as well as elementary school arts development. BITS Assemblies are an excellent opportunity for schools with or without music instrument instruction. Two same day performances are also available.
