Alexis Firsty

Alexis Firsty has 15 years of experience in the field of Art Education, holds a California teaching credential, and has taught in a variety of schools in California, Rhode Island, and internationally in Mexico and Italy. She holds a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University and a Master in Art Education from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She has taught visual art to students of all ages and has also worked as an Arts Integration Coach, helping teachers and students to learn all subjects through the arts. She has led students in the creation of public art projects, including painted murals and ceramic tile installations.

Alexis is a visual artist who focuses mostly on drawing, painting, and book arts. She also has experience making and teaching ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and mixedmedia art-forms. As a teacher, Alexis encourages students to develop both their imagination and their ability to observe the world around them. She invites students to discover meaning, express emotion, and tell personal stories through the creation of artwork.

Program description

Residency Description:
Artists, writers, and scientists are all observers of the world around us. In this residency, students will become all three by making an original book that will contain a series of creative interpretations of natural forms found in their surroundings. Alexis Firsty, artist and CA credentialed art educator, will lead this cross-disciplinary residency by guiding students to make connections between subjects while expressing their own unique creative voice.
