April 5: The Art of Looking
Using images that span the history of the medium, you will acquire greater understanding of how composition, content, and context intertwine to provide meaning and why certain photographs are deemed art.
April 12: Great Movements
Learn about the great movements in photography and expand your vocabulary for critiquing and discussing the medium. Students will develop understanding of Pictorialism, the Photo-Secession, Modernism, Group f/64, scientific photography, and Post-modernism.
April 19: History of Landscape Photography
Learn about the evolution of landscape photography from the 19th century to the present, from the ethereal to the majestic and the haunting. View and discuss iconic works by Timothy O’Sullivan, Ansel Adams, Robert Adams, and Edward Burtynsky.
