Sacramento Shakespeare Festival

Sacramento Shakespeare Festival

Presented by Sacramento Shakespeare Festival and CapRadio at William Land Park

The 2018 festival season will feature productions of The Count of Monte Cristo and Henry V. On hand for the Capital Public Radio nights curtain introductions will be staffers Donna Apidone and Sammy Caiola.

The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, which is produced by City Theatre at Sacramento City College, strives to provide top quality Shakespeare performances and training to the Sacramento community, utilizing the resources, teachers, and students of the Theatre Department, and utilizing the most experienced and professional artists in the Sacramento area. They do this with full-length plays in William Land Park, shorter versions of Shakespeare's plays in various locations throughout the Sacramento area, traveling scenes and workshops to classes, community centers, and an on-site High School Internship program.

The Count of Monte Cristo:
Framed and imprisoned through conspiracy on the eve of his wedding day, Edmond Dantes spends fourteen years plotting his revenge. Through providence he escapes and returns to Paris as the Count of Monte Cristo. He insinuates himself into the lives of those who sought to destroy his life, and, one by one, uses their dark secrets to destroy them in turn. This adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo, by Christopher Walsh, brings a fresh look to this "dark tale of intrigue and vengeance.”

Henry V:
King Henry V is new to the throne and declares war on France, England's old enemy, to prove military strength. As the country prepares for battle, will the young king accomplish the unthinkable - victory on French soil, against an army that outnumbers his troops ten to one? Set in a fantastical Brittania in the first century AD, in a matriarchal world in which women can ascend the throne, this production puts a new spin on the story for our modern world.
