Out of Darkness Community Walk

Presented by American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at California State Capitol - West Steps

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, yet suicide is preventable. More than 1,600 people from throughout Sacramento are expected to participate in the annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk hosted by the AFSP Greater Sacramento Chapter.

Our mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP is the leading private funder of research into suicide and the largest national grassroots effort addressing suicide and mental health. We develop and implement educational programs, promote legislative advocacy efforts, develop resources for loss survivors and those with lived experience, and create and host events like the Out of the Darkness Walks as a connection point to these issues for the public.

“We walk to raise awareness about this important health issue. Suicide touches one in five American families. We hope that by walking we save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide,” said Sarah Benedict, Greater Sacramento Chapter Walk Chair.
