Continuing a popular series of interactive and fun Hands on History activities happening on the third Saturday each month, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and Friends of Sutter’s Fort will present a special Hands on History: S.T.E.A.M.
As part of this special event, Fort visitors will take a step back in time to learn how early Californians used basic principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math to solve problems and inspire innovation at the Fort. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in many interactive activities such as adobe brick making, an art activity, blanket weaving, butter churning, and learn why collaboration was so important. Plus, Fort visitors will learn about the evolution of measurement (which includes making their own rulers), how the scale was used as an early machine (and why mathematical skills were so critical), how science and medicine of the 1840s compares to today, and watch black powder weaponry in action -- including the crowd-favorite firing of Sutter’s cannon.
