Rigoletto is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Giuseppe Verdi's middle-to-late career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's beautiful daughter Gilda.
