Inspired at a young age to rescue the historic dance traditions of Mexico, Amalia Hernández founded the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952 with the goal of sharing the beauty of the universe in motion through Mexican dance. From the pre-Columbian era to the Hispanic viceroy period and the revolutionary years, her ballets transport audiences on a journey from the present through the past -- the lords of heaven and earth come back to life, as well as the jaguars and the gods born of human flesh -- disseminating rich Mexican tradition and folklore throughout the world.
