The California Automobile Museum’s Hitting the Road- Special Exhibit is all about exploring the historic American pastime of traveling with family or friends. Depending on age, race, and financial status memories of road trips are different for everyone. The aim of this exhibit is to explore those differences along with how the automobile and road trips changed American culture and entire industries along its journey through the decades.
The “Great American Road Trip” is an iconic part of American culture. Come on a ride with us through the history of the road trip. We will feature the heyday of road trips in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s as well as take a look at how it has changed over the years. We will learn how different Americans experienced life on the road, and see how whole industries grew around the road trip phenomenon.
Whether your whole family was squished into a station wagon on its way to the beach or in a cozy camper bound for Yosemite, everybody has memories of road trips. Join the California Automobile Museum in exploring how road trips have evolved over the years.
