Brazilian-born and Boston-based pianist Victor Cayres makes his Crocker debut with a program that juxtaposes works by Chopin with those of Brazilian composers of the 19th and 20th century. The impact of European influence on the music, art, architecture, and culture of Brazil will be examined through the works of composers such as Leopoldo Miguéz and Cláudio Santoro, whose works encompass late romanticism, nationalism, and modernism in Brazilian piano music. An award-winning pianist who has performed as a soloist throughout the world, Cayres will offer a global perspective on classical music.

Before the performance, enjoy a docent-led tour of select works from the Crocker’s permanent collection of contemporary American works, to help put the music in context with the art. Prelude tours depart from the Museum admission desk at 1pm and 2pm.
