Waste Not, Want Not Exhibit

Waste Not, Want Not Exhibit

Presented by City of Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture at SMUD Art Gallery

Angela Gonzalez is a Sacramento-based artist who creates works from recycled materials and converts them into pieces that help viewers make the connection between art, technology and sustainability.

Today, our planet faces an unprecedented environmental crisis: global warming, intensive farming, and habitat destruction, amongst others. A sustainable future requires a balance between people, planet and profit. Keeping this balance represents a challenge in a world of hyper population and aggressive business.

By removing computer components from the waste stream and using them as part of my work, I am contributing to lessening their environmental impact. Ultimately, I want to further the understanding of how technology is both a contributor to some of these problems and an enabler of solutions. My objective is to create awareness and engage audiences in a conversation about our ecological and social responsibilities, leading to a greener tomorrow. -- Angela Gonzalez

Angela has a Design Degree from the Politecnico Nacional, Colombia, and has completed art coursework at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence, Italy, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL, and the Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA.

The Art in Public Places Program was established by the City and County of Sacramento to provide visual art experiences in public locations. The SMUD Art Gallery is a partnership between the Sacramento Municipal Utility District and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.
