This year’s Authors on the Move marks our 17th year of bringing together 40 plus distinguished California authors and their recently published books for an evening of literary delight. The Foundation is thrilled to present this year’s keynote speaker, David Lawrence Jr., and his recently published memoir, A Dedicated Life: Journalism, Justice and a Chance for Every Child.  

What are you going to do for the rest of your life? For Dave Lawrence, a brilliant newspaper editor and publisher with a distinguished, three-decade-long journalism career who retired in 1999 at the age of 56, the answer in his words was to dedicate his life to a “newly energized purposefulness: that every child have a real chance to succeed.” David Lawrence Jr. retired in 1999 as publisher of The Miami Herald to work in the area of early childhood development and readiness. His dedication to children will compliment our guests ‘continued efforts to increase children’s literacy in Sacramento through our public library.

Once again we are thrilled that Beth Ruyak, of Capital Public Radio’s Insight, will be our Mistress of Ceremonies and Pat Hume of David Sobon Auctions will be our auctioneer. Guests will enjoy a champagne reception, a four-course meal from the Hyatt Regency’s farm-to-fork menu, unlimited wine, conversations with three regional authors at their table, a keynote presentation by David Lawrence, and a live auction which features opportunities to win one-time author experiences. The Avid Reader Bookstore will offer all titles for purchase the night of the event.

The Foundation is also pleased to announce an enhanced audio solution to the challenge of the noise when all tables are engaged in dialogue with their authors. This event just keeps getting better while creating more and more support for our Library’s Summer Reading Program and the Foundation’s operations.
