In looking for a title that encompasses all the paintings and sculptures in this show, Laurelin Gilmore came to "Intrinsic Nature" as a little bit of a play on words. The intrinsic nature of these creatures is that intrinsically they are a part of the natural world. She had long been interested in the idea of people with animal or insect attributes, but for this show she explores more deeply the inseparable nature of a person and their environment. Not only in that nature grows from the body of the subject, but that it is a part of the body of the subject.
