CFAA Actors Workshop

CFAA Actors Workshop

Presented by Capital Film Arts Alliance at The Workshop, Sacramento

This workshop addresses the challenges of acting beyond "looking good, being natural, and memorizing lines." At its core, film is a medium of subtleties and specifics, demanding consistent choices and an actors' intimate belief in the work they perform. The choices actors make separate the hobbyist from craftsperson, amateur from professional. This workshop will examine choices: how to take advantage of the details an author provides in a script and how to create them if they don't exist. How to analyze a work and extrapolate the decisions made by an actor and director to convey the most powerful product -- and to use the findings as inspiration to create new, engaging and memorable work. Participants should bring writing or recording tools, and will participate in group analysis of written and filmed pieces.

Jason, a co-founder of the CFAA, has made his living in the industry for nearly thirty years as an award-winning actor, writer and director. He has appeared in dozens of stage plays, films, voiceovers, and video games. He has workshopped/guest instructed for multiple educational institutions in the Sacramento area on acting, directing, movement and screenwriting. In Seattle, he was a core member of Seattle International Film Festival's Cinema Co-Op, workshopping scripts with such actors as Tom Skerritt, Peter Horton, and Ned Beatty while studying with John Jacobsen, co-founder of the prestigious The Film School. After attending the National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York, Jason worked in Los Angeles on independent films while acting as a core member for the only State-sanctioned non-profit to teach and perform Shakespeare in high-risk inner city schools. Jason continues to work and provides private coaching as well as group classes and is an instructor at Tamraloo Studios in Lincoln. Jason is a member of SAG/AFTRA and represented by The Silver Bitela Agency, WGA.

The CFAA Actors Workshop offers a different instructor or acting technique is shared each month by some of the best acting coaches and instructors around. There's something for everyone!
