Handstylin' Calligraphy Workshop

Handstylin' Calligraphy Workshop

Presented by Sol Collective at Sol Collective

In this interactive workshop students will be presented with a brief history of calligraphy from around the world. During the class, you will build an understanding of the basics of a handstyle and gain a deeper understanding of calligraphy tools used in different cultures. By the end of the class students will leave with knowledge of basic calligraphy styles and techniques and gain the ability to identify a vast array of lettering methods.

A proud native of Stockton, Daniel Paniagua first got introduced to art by way of the streets and railroad tracks near his neighborhood. In search of his own identity, he began to relate himself as a graffiti writer throughout middle school and high school. In late 2010 an evolution in his approach to art unfolded as he focused on building a deeper understanding for lettering while teaching himself a variety of calligraphy styles and techniques. As a student, artist, and community member, Daniel seeks inspiration for his calligraphy art through poetry, art history, culture, and people of his community.

Currently, he finds discipline in everyday practice while striving to preserve his culture through a variety of spaces; from facilitating workshops with the youth in high schools, juvenile hall centers, and conferences, to creating murals and participating in art exhibits throughout California and abroad.
