Why We Sing: SVCC Turns 50

Why We Sing: SVCC Turns 50

Presented by Sacramento Valley Concert Choir (SVCC) at Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento

SVCC’s 50th Anniversary Concert is led by esteemed Artistic Director Jim R. Parr, Jr. and accompanied by acclaimed concert pianist Jason Sia. Enhancing this once-in-a-lifetime event are Guest Conductors Anthony Lien and William Zinn, an instrumental ensemble, and choir alumni. Repertoire ranges from "Bohemian Rhapsody" to "Moonglow" to the breathtaking finale of "Why We Sing" followed by "The Awakening."

In its five decades, SVCC has performed at the State Fair, Crocker Museum, River Cats game, Sac Sings Festival, and elsewhere. But public performances are rare: SVCC’s primary goal is to bring music to those who may not be able to get out into the community (which means private concerts in places such as retirement homes). Current members, aged 30-88, hail from all walks of life—education, medicine, legal, tech, biz, finance, and more. A love of singing -- and a love of giving -- bring them together.
