Living History: Railroad Lantern Craft and Hand Signal Demo

Living History: Railroad Lantern Craft and Hand Signal Demo

Presented by Sacramento History Museum at Sacramento History Museum

In May, for the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, museum guests are invited to make their own railroad lanterns and learn about the various hand signals -- many still used by railroad workers -- to send important messages to communicate on the railroad, often during challenging conditions.

The Sacramento History Museum is proud to introduce and offer monthly Second Saturday Living History Day activities both inside and outside the museum located along the Old Sacramento Waterfront. With always-popular and free gold panning activities happening outside the museum on Second Saturdays, games of chance and special hands-on crafts will be offered inside the newly-renovated Sacramento History Museum. Plus, Living History characters in period attire will roam inside and outside the museum to entertain and engage with interested guests.
