Ryan Guzman Day: Windows on the World Screening

Presented by California Legislative Latino Caucus at Crest Theatre

Vice-Mayor Eric Guerra will make a Proclamation and deem May 15, 2019, “Ryan Guzman Day” in Sacramento, with a screening of Guzman’s latest film Windows on the World to follow.

Windows on the World follows Guzman’s character “Fernando” as he travels from Mexico to New York City in search of his father, Balthazar, an undocumented busboy in the Windows on the World restaurant located on the top floor of the World Trade Center.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Fernando and his family watch the news in horror as the Twin Towers collapse. As the family grieves, feeling the emotional and financial toll of their absent patriarch, Fernando's distraught mother swears she sees her husband on news footage -- escaping from the building alive. Fernando discovers the hard truths about his father, the melting pot of America, and the immigrant experience during his journey.

Raised in Sacramento, Ryan Guzman earned his first black belt in Tae Kwon Do by the age of 10, which led him into the octagon as a MMA fighter in Sacramento. He was also a sought-after left-handed pitcher, but a shoulder injury pushed him into a career in print modeling and acting. After success in modeling, Guzman signed on with a talent manager, and went into the audition process as a professional actor. Just a few months later, he booked the male lead for Step Up Revolution, and soon after starred as the male lead opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Universal Studios thriller The Boy Next Door. Guzman most recently wrapped production on Backtrace alongside Sylvester Stallone, and can be seen starring in FOX’s 9-1-1.
