Thanks for your interest in the 126th Portuguese Festa in Freeport/Clarksburg, one of California’s oldest cultural festivals.
On Saturday the council will host a fundraising picnic dinner at the Portuguese Hall featuring vinha d’alhos (Portuguese-style marinated BBQ pork or beef). Sides and desserts are included. Music will be provided by DJ Kris.
On Sunday, festivities begin with a colorful parade along South River Road from the Portuguese Hall to St. Joseph’s Church where a new queen will be crowned following mass. The procession will return to the hall to enjoy sopas e carne. The traditional Portuguese meal will be served all day and symbolizes Queen-Saint Isabel’s humanitarian efforts of providing food to the poor in the early 13th century. In addition to music and traditional Portuguese food in a park-like setting, there will also be a live auction, hand-made goods for sale, bingo, kid’s games and two bars
