Tasting Event: French Champagne vs. Napa Sparkling

Presented by The Firehouse Restaurant at The Firehouse Restaurant

Join The Firehouse for an opportunity to dazzle your fizzy palate with a showdown for the ages! This event will be the grand kick-off of the sparkling season at The Firehouse, and we will continue to keep these effervescent libations coming your way.

Be a part of this opportunity to dazzle your fizzy palate with a showdown for the ages; as Napa Valley’s own Schramsberg Vineyards faces off against Chateau de Bligny of Champagne, France. Of course, in this showdown there are only winners! All selections being poured are ranked 90+ by Wine Spectator.

The top-notch purveyor of California sparkling Schramsberg takes its name from founder Jacob Schram, a German immigrant who began making bubbly beverages at his winery on Diamond Mountain in 1862. They will be pouring their Brut Rosé and their Blanc de Blancs. The latter of these two has been served at official White House functions by every administration since the Nixon era. Recently, it was in the glass used by President Trump to toast The French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to The White House in April of 2018.

The French Chateau de Bligny , was built on the foundation of a feudal castle owned by the Marquis de Dampierre, who had bought the estate in 1773 in order to hunt wolves. To make their long and incredibly interesting story short, the property has been in the care of numerous people including a Baron appointed by Louis XVIII, a man named Lefèvre, and it now belongs to the Lorin family. They will be pouring their Brut Rosé and their Grande Reserve Brut Champagne which was described by Wine Spectator as having “…a streamlined frame and racy acidity with integrated flavors of ripe Honeycrisp apple, apricot, tangerine, toasted nuts and a hint of brioche.”

The Firehouse will be providing passed hors d'oeuvres and there will be representatives on hand from both wineries as well as a smattering of our own sommeliers to help guide you on your journey though these gems of the old world and the new.
