Yamato: Jhonetsu (Canceled)

Presented by Mondavi Center, UC Davis at Mondavi Center - Jackson Hall

Note: This event has been cancelled. The Yolo County Public Health Officer has issued a countywide health order for residents to shelter in place from 3/19-4/7.

Through traditional Taiko drumming, Yamato seeks to create “tamashii,” which translates as soul, spirit and psyche, the very elements of life itself. Hailing from the village of Asuka, thought to be the birthplace of Japanese culture, Yamato’s motto is “Go anywhere if invited and make the world a little more happy.”

The globe-trotting troupe achieves this by infusing traditional drumming virtuosity with original compositions and theatrical staging. The result is a vital, pulsating experience that connects these exceptional artists with their audience through “shin-on”—a shared heartbeat. Their family-friendly performance is sure to ignite “jhonetsu”, passion, within you!
