Harvest Day 2019: A Gardener’s Dream Day

Harvest Day 2019: A Gardener’s Dream Day

Presented by UCCE Master Gardeners of Sacramento County at Fair Oaks Horticulture Center

Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Sacramento County for the free annual Harvest Day celebration at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center. “Roots are the root of most problems and the answer to many plant mysteries!” advises horticulturist Pam Bone, one of featured speakers for Harvest Day 2019. Additionally, in the Fair Oaks Boulevard Speakers’ Tent, local horticultural experts Debbie Flower and Kevin Marini will unlock the mysteries of container gardening and when to fertilize or not.

Tour the demonstration gardens to be inspired by innovative gardening techniques that you can use in your own garden. Bring samples of bugs in sealed bags: the “Bug Lady” can pronounce them good or bad.

At Harvest Day, your curiosity will pique as you explore the unique gardens, see unusual plants such as the ‘Burgundy’ Okra or gaze at the apple tree with 16 varieties of fruit. Gather new ideas at the tropical hut sheltering the dwarf Cavendish banana and find out about the cultural adaptations needed for it’s survival.

Visit with the 37 educational organizations, shop at the garden specialty merchants and enjoy a picnic snack from one of the food vendors. Don’t forget to purchase your 2020 Garden Calendar and visit the neighboring Fair Oaks Community Garden. Join the Sacramento County Master Gardeners for Harvest Day 2019 for a fun, easy, free adventure.
