Brazilian Day Sacramento Street Festival

Brazilian Day Sacramento Street Festival

Presented by Casa de Brazilian Folkloric Arts of Sacramento and CapRadio at Midtown Art Retail Restaurant Scene Building (MARRS)

Brazilian Day Sacramento Street Festival is still one of the most amazing Brazilian street festivals in Norcal! Now in its seventh year, the festival will present new rhythms, amazing performances and a celebration of the Brazilian tradition “Bumba Meu Boi!” Brazilian Independence Day is a national celebration that draws millions of people across the country to festivals in major cities such as New York, Miami and Houston. The Sacramento festival is organized by Casa de Brazilian Folkloric Arts of Sacramento, a non-profit organization dedicated to the performance and education of Brazilian Folkloric Arts in communities across Sacramento.

The organization is led by Brazilian native Jose Dantas (a.k.a. Mestre Caboclinho), a world renowned artist with over 40 years experience in Brazilian performing arts, including tours with infamous Brazilian show group OBA OBA. Each year he creates a new vision representing a piece of Brazil's cultural identity for the festival. The 2019 festival is turning up the heat with Brazilian Drum and Dance performances by La Samba, Sacramento’s newest Brazilian performance group, Raiz Brazil Dance company, Brasil, Brazil Band, Brazilian food with Dbest Brazilian Restaurant and Bumba Meu Boi! Bumba Meu Boi is a festival in Brazil that stems from a historic folkloric tale of a man and his love for his ox. The festival performance will be filled with dancing, drumming and a bull(not a real one)!

From dancing with a bull to Samba in the street, the festival will feature amazing Samba dance performances and street workshop with Raiz Brazil dance company, led by director and founder Jonia McClenney. The stage will also be filled with the sounds of music ensemble Silvio, playing lively rhythms of Samba and Brazilian Pagode music. Brazilian food will also be served up this year by Sacramento’s newest Brazilian restaurant, Dbest. In addition to Brazilian dances, this year our festival will also show the diversity of dance in Sacramento and will have salsa and contemporary dance performances light up the stage. A Brazilian festival would not be complete without Brazilian Folkloric Capoeira performances directed by festival director Jose Dantas (Mestre Caboclinho). Acrobatics, swift moves and lots of fun will be demonstrated by this group!

Headlining the festival will be Brazilian band, Brasil Brazil. This band brings an eclectic mix of Brazilian samba to lively Brazilian jazz beats! The event will also be filled with great vendors, soccer penalty competition with presence of Sac Republic players (prizes given to the community), children’s activities and more!
