Constitution Day at California Museum

Constitution Day at California Museum

Presented by The California Museum at California Museum

Enjoy free admission to view the original historic 1849 California Constitution and all current exhibits at the California Museum!

On loan from the California State Archives, the original 1849 California Constitution is rarely on public display due to preservation concerns. Hand-written on parchment paper and published in both English and Spanish, the document was adopted at the California Constitutional Convention on October 10, 1849, and ratified on November 13, 1849. California was admitted as the 31st state in the Union on September 9, 1850.

This one-day event is presented in partnership with California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and the California State Archives in observance of Constitution Day, a federal holiday honoring the 1787 signing of the U.S. Constitution that recognizes all who are born in the U.S. or have become U.S. citizens through naturalization.
