Sunday Matinee Classics presents Lonely Are The Brave

Presented by Sacramento Public Library at Central Library

Produced in 1962 and based on the novel The Brave Cowboy: An Old Tale In A New Time by Edward Abbey, Lonely Are The Brave is a story of rugged individualism, a lone wanderer played by Kirk Douglas yearning for the open landscape of the untamed west who clashes with modern-day life.

A story of a man and his horse struggling for a return to that peace and freedom and a love of the land. One of Kirk Douglas’ finest films and his favorite of all as he celebrates his 103rd birthday in December. Upon making the film, he exclaimed "It happens to be a point of view I love. This is what attracted me to the story - the difficulty of being an individual today."
