Traces and Natural History

Presented by JAYJAY at JAYJAY Gallery

Anne Gregory creates compositional narratives of the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. There is an underlying harmony to all of Gregory’s work that is found not only in the content of her pieces but also in her diverse selection of materials. These collaged pieces build stories where unexpected material explorations and studies of the animal kingdom coexist as texturally stimulating allegories.

Gregory received her MFA from University of Iowa. She has exhibited her work both nationally and throughout California. She has also been the recipient of several grants from the California Arts Commission.

Penny Olson’s work first begins with photographs whose content stems from the everyday and the natural world. She takes these images and then re-processes, deconstructs, and then re-constructs them into moments of pattern and color fields that stand alone with their origins completely left behind. The camera is the catalyst by which Olson finds the human energy that emanates from behind the lens.

Olson received her MFA from UCLA. She has shown extensively both nationally and internationally. Her work belongs to many private and public collections, including Neiman Marcus, Kaiser Permanente, and The Muyogi Museum of Art in Takasaki Japan.
